Taskin Ahmed Set to Return for Pakistan Test Series

Bangladesh Cricket Team could receive a major boost for the Pakistan Test series with the return of Taskin Ahmed for their upcoming Test Tour of Pakistan.

Taskin was battling with a shoulder injury during the recent ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies. He hasn’t played a test match in 12 months but is eyeing for a return to red-ball cricket. He sustained a shoulder injury during the Bangladesh tour of South Africa in 2022.

According to the team’s physio Bayjedul Islam, if Tasking was able to hold up the load of bowling longer spells, he could return for the Pakistan series.

“Taskin has played in the T20 format of late. So, he did not bowl for long spells during this period. He had a shoulder issue, which he even got rechecked during the T20 World Cup,” he said.

“The thing is, the damage he had at that time, is exactly the same now as it has not aggravated. A player can play by managing these (types of injuries). If he continues his rehabilitation and the workouts, Taskin is definitely available (for Tests).”

Taskin Ahmed is currently at a training camp for the preparations for the two-match test series in Pakistan after playing three T20 matches in Sri Lanka for the Colombo strikers in the LPL 2024.

He has played only 13 test matches for Bangladesh since his debut in the format against New Zealand in 2017. “But as for bowling workload in Tests where you need to bowl longer spells, a player needs to get up to that speed. So, he will try to do that and if he feels better then he can play in Tests,” Bayjedul added.

Bangladesh is currently in the seventh position of the WTC points table and would need a few positive results in Pakistan for advancement in the table.

The two-match test series in Pakistan will be played until September 03. The first Test match will begin on August 21 at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium.
