Tamim Iqbal Ruled Out of Afghanistan Test: Bangladesh opening batter Tamim Iqbal has been ruled out of the upcoming one-off Test match against Afghanistan due to lower back pain.
Tamim Iqbal Ruled Out of Afghanistan Test
During the Afghanistan tour of Bangladesh 2023, both teams are scheduled to play one Test, 3 ODI and 2 T20Is between June 14 to July 16 across 3 different venues.
The series will begin with a Test match on June 14 at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka. Right before the match started, the Bangladesh cricket team faces a massive blow right after Tamim Iqbal failed to recover from his back pain.
National Team physio Muzadded Alpha Sany said: “Tamim has been experiencing lower back pain which has troubled him from time to time. Our treatment and procedures focused on reducing the pain and improving his functional ability but unfortunately, his condition hasn’t improved sufficiently for him to play the Test match.
“He has felt stiffness and pain while batting and fielding in training and has not been able to complete the physical preparation required to play for five days.”
BCB chief selector Minhajul Abedin confirmed that a replacement won’t be named while it is understood that Bangladesh will have a new opening pair in the Test match in Mahmudul Hasan and Zakir Hasan, both of whom are making a comeback in the longer format.
Bangladesh will already be without their star player Shakib Al Hasan for his one-off game but they are hoping that he would be fit for the ODIs and T20Is against Afghanistan, scheduled from the first week of July.
