Mehidy Hasan-led side secured a 101-run victory in the second test of the Bangladesh tour of West Indies 2024 after Taijul Islam picked a fifer for 50 runs.
Setting a target of 287 runs, West Indies bowled out for 185 runs in less than two sessions. Bangladesh had lost their previous seven tests in the Caribbean, including the first match of the series in Antigua, but their win in the game brought them level in the short series.
Taijul Islam was the star performer for Bangladesh in the second innings, which is his best performance in overseas in 2.5 years. His spin caused the West Indies’ Collapse, with the last six wickets falling for just 42 runs.
Bangladesh’s second innings, Jaker Ali played a crucial role smashing 91 runs including five sixes and eight fours. Jaker’s aggressive batting gave Bangladesh’s total a competitive lead against West Indies.

West Indies captain Kraigg Brathwaite led a positive start to the chase but couldn’t continue the momentum as he was dismissed for 43 runs. Mikyle Louis and keacy Carty fell to Taijul Islam and Taskin Ahmed.
Kavem Hodge who scored a half century tried to keep West Indies in the game, but once he fell for 55, the rest of the team quickly followed.
Taskin Ahmed, Hasan Mahmud and Nahid Rana joined Taijul in dismantling West Indies’ low order. Taijul’s brilliant spell 15th five wicket haul, trapping Joshua Da Silva to seal victory of Bangladesh.
The victory is Bangladesh’s first win in the Caribbean in 15 years and also ended their losing streak in the region, with both teams sharing the spoils in the series.
Taijul Islam has been named as the player of the match. While speaking in the post match conference, “These are challenging conditions for us. I feel that our players played really well and they showed a lot of dedication and hence, we got success.”
“(On their bowling group) Our pace attack and our spin attack is very good. We can compete against any team in the world. There was a lot of chatter throughout the Test with both teams dishing it out to each other.”
“But it all ends with handshakes between the two sets of players. Soon after the final wicket, captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz gathered his mates in a huddle and shared some encouraging words with them.”
“Taijul also had something to share in the huddle. Really special moments for the Bangladeshi team,” said Taijul Islam.
Bangladesh will be playing a three match ODI series starting on December 08 at Werner Park.
