India’s T20 star Suryakumar Yadav crossed 2000 T20I runs during the 2nd T20I match of India’s South Africa tour in Gqeberah on Tuesday and became the join-fastest Indian to achieve the feat.
Fastest 2000 runs in T20I by innings
India is scheduled to play in a three-match T20I series in India’s South Africa tour where the first match was abandoned due to rain. During the second T20I match, Suryakumar Yadav scored 56 runs on 36 deliveries, but the side suffered defeat by five wickets.
Suryakumar Yadav has leveled with the Indian star Virat Kohli for the fastest player to 2000 T20I runs. They have achieved this feat in 56 innings and stand third in the list. The Pakistan player Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan tops the list to achieve this feat in 52 innings.
On the other hand, he became the fastest to achieve the feat by balls required to reach 2000 T20I runs. He broke the records of Australia’s Aaron Finch who achieved this feat on 1283 balls.
Suryakumar Yadav has the highest score against South Africa in T20Is as a captain after surpassing MS Dhoni’s 45 runs in 2007.
Suryakumar Yadav was delighted about playing in South Africa and said, “Very happy to be here and happy to know there’s some cricket around. We were confused about what to do, but now we are very happy to bat first.”
“It’s an opportunity for everyone playing this game. World Cup is still 5-6 months away. Just enjoy yourself is the message to the team.”
Aiden Markram while speaking at the pre-match conference said, “We are going to bowl first; we have been under the covers for most of the day, so I would assume it would move around a bit.”
“Each game becomes important for us to fine-tune things before the 2024 T20 World Cup; hopefully, we can start well today. From my point of view, it’s about understanding if someone needs a rest. No debuts today,” he said.
After suffering a defeat in the second T20I, the men in Blues will be playing their 3rd T20I on December 14 at Wanderers Stadium.
