South Africa qualifies for Super 8 Stage after SL vs NEP match called off

South Africa becomes the first team to qualify for the Super 8 round of the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. Proteas achieved this feat after the Sri Lanka vs Nepal match was abandoned due to rain.

South Africa qualifies for Super 8 Stage

South Africa qualified for the Super 8 round after winning their first 3 games of the tournament. Notably, South Africa is the first team and only team to register a hat trick victory in the 2024 T20 World Cup at this time.

South Africa played their first match of the tournament against Sri Lanka and won the game by 6 wickets. In their second and third match, the Proteas men faced the Netherlands and Bangladesh and won by 4 wickets and 4 runs respectively.

With a hattrick victory, South Africa leads the race for the Super 8 qualifications. As per the T20 World Cup 2024 rules, the top 2 teams of the four groups will advance to the Super 8 round.

All participating teams have been divided into five teams of four groups where each team will play a total of four group matches from which the top two teams will advance to the Super 8 round.

In the Super 8 stage, the teams will be divided into two groups of four teams based on their points. The round will be played in a single round-robin format, with the top 2 teams in each group advancing to the knockout stage.

The first Super 8 match will be played on June 19 at Sir Vivian Richards Stadium, North Sound, Antigua. 12 matches will be played in the Super 8 round from which only four teams will advance to the semi-final round.

Unlike the playoff format, the 2024 T20 World Cup will follow the knock-out format where the losers of semi-final 1 and semi-final 2 will be eliminated from the tournament while the winners will face off for the trophy in the final match.

The grand final will be played on June 29 between the winners of semi-final 1 and semi-final 2 at Kensington Oval, Bridgetown, Barbados.
