Bangladesh is scheduled to play a three-match ODI and T20I series in Bangladesh’s New Zealand tour. The Blackcaps lead the series 2-0. During the second ODI match, the Bangladesh opener Soumya Sarkar scored 169 runs on 151 deliveries including 22 fours and two sixes.

The 30-year-old player’s 169 runs are the highest score by Bangladesh men away from home in ODI and the highest in ODIs by a player from the sub-continent in New Zealand. He surpassed Bangladesh’s highest ODI score in New Zealand. He surpassed Sachin Tendulkar’s record of scoring 163* runs against the Kiwis in Christchurch in 2009.

New Zealand won the toss and decided to bowl, where Bangladesh lost three wickets before the completion of 10 overs. Being the opener, he lost four partners but joined a partnership with Mushfiqur Rahim who jointly made a 91-run partnership.

The youngster William O’Rourke dismissed the Bangladesh star and prevented him from breaking Litton Das’ record of the highest ODI score by a Bangladesh Player who scored 176 runs against Zimbabwe in 2020.

While speaking on the post-match interview, Sarkar said, “I took time in the first few overs. Happy with the hundred, but unfortunately we lost. Would have been special had we won. Had good partnerships with Rahim and Miraz but they got out at the wrong time.”

“Could have had a bigger total if they wouldn’t have got out. I watch the ball and play according to its merit. The pull shot over mid-wicket is my favorite shot.”

Bangladesh completed their innings by scoring 291 runs. New Zealand openers Will Young and Rachin Ravindra had a great start as Young scored 89 runs while Rachin Ravindra scored 45 runs.

Nicholls was impressive with his score of 95 runs and he was dismissed by Shoriful Islam. By unbeaten runs of 34 and 24 by Tom Latham and Tom Blundell, New Zealand won the match by seven wickets.

Bangladesh will be playing their 3rd ODI match against the Blackcaps on December 23 at  McLean Park.
