Sophie Molineux, Grace Harris ruled out of The Hundred 2024

Due to injury, Australian cricketers Grace Harris and Sophie Molineux have been ruled out of the upcoming The Hundred 2024 tournament. The Hundred Womens Competition 2024 will be played in England between July 23 and August 18.

As per the The Hundred 2024 schedule, the first match will be played between Oval Invincibles Women and Birmingham Phoenix Women on July 23 in Kennington Oval, London.

Sophie Molineux who was expected to make her maiden appearance for Manchester Originals this season was forced to pull out of the tournament after suffering an acute rib fracture.

Injuries for the best White ball players becomes a major concern for Cricket Australia ahead of Women’s T20 WorldCup 2024 schedule.

The allrounder sustained the injury last week after being struck in the chest by a ball while batting. The injury pushed Molineux for an eight-week break, which would put her on track to be available for Australia’s first assignment of a busy summer in mid-September. Her national teammate Kim Garth will replace Molineux at Manchester.

On the other hand, Grace Harris failed to make it to the tournament after aggravating a calf injury. The hard-hitting allrounder will now focus on getting fit ahead of a packed 2024-25 schedule for the Australian team.

ECB confirmed India star Deepti Sharma as her replacement player but Aussie bowler Megan Schutt will also head to the UK to join the club as a replacement player.

The Hundred rules allow the clubs to have a fourth overseas player as cover but allow only three in the playing 11.

London Spirit also called in Sydney Sixers allrounder Erin Burns as cover for Deepti Sharma who will be unavailable for the start of the tournament due to the Asia Cup commitment.

Meanwhile, Kim Garth and Megan Schutt will miss the early stage of the Australia A v India A series in Queensland, due to begin early next month. The duo has been named in the Australia A T20 and ODI squads for that multi-format series but will now be replaced by Maitlan Brown and Kate Peterson.

It is worth mentioning, that a total of 18 Australian women cricketers will feature in the 2024 edition of the Hundred tournament.
