New Zealand allrounder Sophie Devine has signed a two-year contract extension with Perth Scorchers ahead of the Women’s Big Bash League 2024. Initially, Scorchers secured the New Zealand allrounder under the Weber WBBL’s pre-draft signing rule.
Sophie Devine was retained by the Scorchers in the inaugural overseas player draft last year and she became the club’s first player – men’s or women’s – signed under the league’s new pre-signing mechanism for overseas players.
Devine amazed 489 runs and scalped 14 wickets last season and was named in the WBBL Team of the Tournament.
Hailing from New Zealand, Sophie Devine is only two wickets away from completing a 100 in the competition. Right after the announcement, Sophie Devine recalled her past with the franchise and termed the 2021-22 title winning campaign as a “special memory” when she captained the side.
“I’m absolutely stoked to be returning to the Scorchers. I have built such a special connection with the players and staff over the past four seasons, and I couldn’t imagine playing anywhere else.
Winning the WBBL|07 title in front of our fans at Optus Stadium will always be a special memory for me, and something the whole group is incredibly motivated to achieve,” Devine said.

As per WBBL 2024 schedule, Perth Scorchers Women will play their first match of the tournament against Melbourne Stars Women on October 27 in W.A.C.A. Ground, Perth.
