Indian Women’s Opening Batter Smriti Mandhana completes 500 Test runs during the only Test against South Africa at Chepauk Stadium and becomes the ninth Indian to do so.

Mandhana made her Test debut in August 2014 against England at Wormsley Park. Since then she featured in 6 tests so far and scored 480 runs(before this inning) with a top score of 127.
Indian Women’s cricket team were scheduled to play one-off test during the South Africa Women’s tour of India 2024 between June 28 and July 1 in MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai.
During the tour, a total of 3 ODIs, and 3 T20Is have been scheduled to play along with the one-off Test. In the 3 ODIs which were played between June 16 and 23, the hosts won all three games and handed a whitewash defeat to South African Women’s.
After dominating the victors in the ODI format, Harmanpreet Kaur and Co. faced South African Women will full confidence at Chennai. Speaking of the game, India women won the toss and opted to bat first where their regular opening duo, Smriti Mandhana and Shafali Verma opened the inning.
The duo made an aggressive approach towards the South African women since the beginning of the game. With individual fifties from Smriti Mandhana and Shafali, India scored 130 runs without losing a wicket before lunch interval.
With the impressive knock, Smriti Mandhana becomes the ninth Indian Woman to score 500 Test runs.
