SLC Withdraws Wanindu Hasaranga from IPL 2024

Waninud Hasaranga has pulled out of IPL 2024 due to injury and the franchise is looking for a replacement. According to the sources, SLC has written to the BCCI stating 26-year-old has to undergo rehabilitation and rest to heal his left ankle and will be not available for the rest of the season.

“I believe so,” the player’s manager, Shyam said on media. “Sri Lanka Cricket has written to the BCCI informing them about his unavailability. He went to Dubai for medical advice and stayed there for three days. Given the current situation, the expert’s advice is that he should rest rather than participate in the IPL this season.”

Hasaranga who featured in a white-ball series in Bangladesh in March, was treated by SLC medical staff who was suspected of pain of the musculoskeletal apparatus in his left heal.

He was meant to travel overseas for further consultation before the clearance from SLC to IPL which Daniel Vettori told on Thursday that Hasaranga had consulted a specialist in Dubai.

Wanindu Hasaranga’s withdrawal has raised major questions about foreign Players skipping the tournament for unaccountable reasons after putting their names in the auction.

Hasaranga has come out of test retirement for Sri Lanka’s tour of Bangladesh in 2024. However, he could not play in the Bangladesh tour as he was handed a ban by the ICC on disciplinary grounds.

Hasaranga had a price of INR 10.75 crores previously and after its release by RCB, his price was reduced to his base price of INR 1.5 crores which SRH purchased this season.

Hasaranga has played 26 matches across the tournament and bagged a total of 35 wickets and has amassed 72 runs.

His manager has denied that the withdrawal has anything to do with the auction value. Coming to the tournament, SRH has won two out of four matches they played in the season and placed in the fifth position of the IPL 2024 points table.

Sunrisers Hyderabad is scheduled to play their next match against Punjab Kings on April 09 at Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium.
