Glenn Maxwell Included in Test Squad: Australia have added all-rounder Glenn Maxwell to their squad for the 2-match Test series against Sri Lanka.
Glenn Maxwell Included in Test Squad
So far in the Australia tour of Sri Lanka 2022, Australia won the 3-match T20I series by 1-2, while already lost the 5-match ODI series with a match left to play.
Australia won the first ODI match by 2 wickets by DLS method while hosts Sri Lanka won the 2nd ODI match by 26 runs after the 2nd innings reduced to 43 over with a DLS target of 216.
Ahead of the 5th ODI match, Travis Head has been ruled out of the last ODI match following a minor hamstring injury suffered while fielding.
The inclusion of all-rounder Glenn Maxwell raises the eyebrow of many cricket experts as the right-handed player hasn’t played a Test for almost five years. The newly appointed Australia coach Andrew McDonald has recently indicated that Maxwell could make a return to the longest format of the game.
Notably, his inclusion comes after his impressive performance in the ODI series alongside his abilities to bat well against spin. Maxwell scored 80*, 30, 33, and 1 run in the first 4 ODI matches respectively. Maxwell also bagged a total of 4 wickets under his name in the 4 ODI matches.
“You never know with what is going to happen,” McDonald said on Melbourne radio station SEN last month.
“He (Maxwell) has got a great record in the sub-continent, and in India in particular with that hundred in Ranchi and he can also give us off-spin.”
Overall, Maxwell has played 7 Tests, scoring 339 runs with 1 century to his name. Post the 5th ODI match on June 24, Australia will play a two-match test series against Sri Lanka on June 29 and July 8.
