Skipper Rohit Sharma joins the list of the elite club with his 100th appearance as India’s captain during the ODI World Cup 2023.

The skipper Rohit Sharma added his already illustrious cap in the 29th World Cup match and joins an iconic list of India captains.
He makes his 100th appearance as an ODI captain where India is set to face Jos Buttler-led England in their sixth World Cup match at Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium.
He becomes the seventh India skipper to feature in 100 matches in the international circuit. He even surpassed Sachin Tendulkar and Sunil Gavaskar to enter the club. Master Blaster captained India for 98 games while Gavaskar led the side for 84 matches.
The elite list of captains with 100 appearances features Virat Kohli, MS Dhoni, Kapi Dev, Mohammad Azharuddin, Sourav Ganguly, and Rahul Dravid.
Rohit Sharma spoke after the toss during the England match saying, “We wanted to bat first, we have had a good time batting second. Looks like a good pitch, it’s a new surface that has been relayed here. It has played well for the 100 overs.”
“I mean it’s quite important to think like that but it’s important to get the two points. We have played some good cricket. It’s always good to have a break. It’s nice to come back here and get back into business. We are playing the same team we played in the last game,” Rohit said after the toss.
MS Dhoni is the only captain to win an ICC World Cup T20 (2007), ODI World Cup (2011) and Champions Trophy (2023). He has captained the side in 332 matches. He recorded 178 wins and 120 defeats as the captain.
Azharuddin has captained India for 221 matches. Virat Kohli has led India in 213 matches out of which the side won 135 matches and 60 defeats. Rohit Sharma has the highest win percentage as India’s captain. He has won 73 matches as India’s captain while they suffered 23 matches while 2 games ended in a draw.
He has an impressive win percentage of 73.73 as captain in the international cricket.
