Siraj, Prasidh handed four runs lead in the Sydney Test

India who is under pressure to win the fifth and final test of the BGT 2024-25 made four four-run lead in the first inning following Siraj and Prasidh Krishna’s impressive three-wicket hauls.

Ahead of the Sydney test, Indian skipper Rohit Sharma opted out of the match while Jasprit Bumrah led the team in his absence. India hasn’t posted a massive target for the opponents in the first inning.

The visitors managed to score just 185 runs in their first inning with Rishabh Pant’s 40 remaining the team’s highest individual score. But in their bowling inning, team India executed an impressive performance.

India’s star bowler Jasprit Bumrah opened his account on day 1 by dismissing Usman Khawaja for 2 runs in the final ball of the day. Bumrah continued his momentum on day 2 and bagged the wicket of Marnus Labuschagne.

While things were in the favour of team India, Bumrah sustained an injury and left the ground in mid with Kohli taking over the captaincy role. Under Kohli’s guidance, Indian fast bowlers executed an extraordinary performance and contained the hosts for 181.

Speaking of the fifth test at Sydney, India opted to bat first after winning the toss. But India’s opening duo failed to lay a strong foundation as Yashasvi Jaiswal and KL Rahul were dismissed for 10 and 4 respectively.

Following a couple of early dismissals, Virat Kohli and Shubman Gill were expected to build a healthy partnership which could bring India back into the game. After Virat Kohli survived a close call in his very first delivery of the inning, the duo started to add runs without any hurry.

While things were seen settled for the visitors, Nathan Lyon dismissed Shubman Gill for 20 runs. Lyon broke the 40-run stand between Virat Kohli and Gill while India slipped to 57 for three before lunch.

Post the lunch, Scott Boland made a crucial wicket by dismissing Virat Kohli for 17 runs. Rishabh Pant scored a struggling 40 and helped India to reach the triple-digit mark. Nitish Reddy who scored a century in the previous test dismissed for a golden duck and shattered the Indian fans. With Bumrah’s handy 22, India scored 185 runs in their first inning.

Australia on the other hand, struggled to face the Indian bowlers and lost their wickets in regular intervals. With Webster’s 57, Australia scored 181 runs after losing all ten wickets.

Speaking of the Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25, Australia have an upper hand with a couple of victories while the visitors are under pressure to win the test to carry the trophy home.

When we look back at the India National Cricket Team vs Australia Cricket Team Timeline, Australia hasn’t won the BGT title since the 2014/15 season.

The Indian cricket team is scheduled to tour Australia to play five tests between 22 November 2024 and 7 January 2025. Border Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 will be the first Test series between India and Australia comprising five matches since 1992.
