Himachal Pradesh’s young cricketer Siddharth Sharma has been passed away on Thursday (January 12, 2023) while on a trip to Gujarat for the Ranji Trophy match.

He had been on the ventilator for the past two weeks and breathed his last on Thursday. Sidharth Sharma made his first-class debut for Himachal Pradesh in the 2017–18 Ranji Trophy on 1 November 2017.

While he made his List A debut on 21 December 2021, for Himachal Pradesh in the 2021–22 Vijay Hazare Trophy.

This is not the first cricketer death of 2023, Odisha Woman cricketer Rajashree Swain was found hanging from a tree in a dense forest near Athagarh in Cuttack district on Friday.

Sharma had fallen sick and was admitted to a hospital in Gujarat. The exact cause of his illness is not known. Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu expressed grief over the shocking news as the official CMO account tweeted:

A tweet from CMO Himachal read “Chief Minister Shri @Sukhusukhvinder has expressed deep condolences on the demise of Sidharth Sharma, the star fast bowler of the state who was a member of the Vijay Hazare Trophy-winning cricket team of Himachal. The Chief Minister expresses his deep condolences to the bereaved family members.”

Siddharth Sharma played his last match on December 20, 2022(Ranji Trophy) against Bengal at Eden Garden and bagged 7 wickets in total.
