The Indian batter Shubman Gill has made a return to batting at the team’s practice session in Canberra after missing the first test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy at Perth.

Ahead of India’s two-day warm-up against Prime Minister’s Xl at the Manuka Oval on Saturday and Sunday.

Shubman Gill joined the batting session by facing the throwdowns initially. After facing 30 minutes of facing Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep and Yash Dayal, it is understood he might be available for the second test.

“He is batting right now and our physio will evaluate him and I will know his status after that,” said other assistant coach Abhishek Nayar.

“But from what I have seen, he is looking comfortable batting and he looks like he can bat [in a match]. He is batting in the indoor nets and we will know if he can play the practice match or not.”

In his absence, Devdutt Padikkal was added to the squad from the India A side and made scores of 0 and 25 where India won by 295 runs to go up 1-0 in the five match series.

“Any ball, when it hits the bat, especially the middle of the bat, and the feeling that you get is what i play for. When I got to know about my injury for the first couple days, I was quite low, a bit disappointed.”

“Perth is only venue where I haven’t played when we came the last time. I was looking forward to playing there as it’s such an iconic venue. But the way we played that game, and by the end of it, I was very happy with the way we played and we won the game,” added Shubman Gill.

Even as Gill’s return could be positive move for India, Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal and Virat Kohli went through their batting practice against pink ball.

India are in danger of losing out a one day of Pink ball practice match. India have played only four Pink ball test matches so far. However, India will be confident on the upcoming test after a historic win in the first test.

The second test of the Australia series will begin on December 06 at Adelaide Oval.
