The Young batter Shubman Gill achieved a milestone as the fastest 2000 ODI runs in 38 innings during the match against New Zealand in the World Cup 2023.

The batter Shubman Gill achieved the fastest 2000 ODI runs during the World Cup match against New Zealand. He accomplished this milestone in 38 innings surpassing the record held by former South African player Hashim Amla who achieved this feat in 40 innings.
The feat comes from the match against New Zealand where he scored 26 runs on 31 balls. He made his maiden half-century in the ICC event during the match against Bangladesh.
The young batter was impressive throughout this year as he amassed 1300 runs in 22 innings in 2023. He was considered the key player for the side during the World Cup 2023. He was awarded with the ICC Men’s Player of the Month award for September 2023.
While speaking before the match against Bangladesh he stated, “It is very important to stick to my basics and do what I regularly do, especially leading up to the match. Have a good mindset and that is what I am doing.”
He also added, “Experience was great, played my first match against Pakistan. It was a big match for us. We have the right momentum with us, hopefully, we can keep it going.”
India has five consecutive victories in the World Cup including the match against New Zealand on October 22. winning the toss, India chose to bowl where Devon Conway and Will Young opened the innings while Jasprit Bumrah opened the bowling attack.
Devon Conway was sent out with a duck by Siraj on the 4th over while Will Young was sent out with 17 runs by Shami. Rachin Ravindra was impressive during the match as he scored 75 runs and Daryl Mitchell scored 130 runs including 9 boundaries and 5 sixes and was sent out by Mohammed Shami.
Other batters struggled to face Indian bowlers as they were sent out with low figures on regular intervals. Latham was sent out with 5 runs while Glenn Phillips scored 23 runs on 26 deliveries and was sent out by Kuldeep Yadav.
Bumrah dismissed Chapman for 6 runs while Santner and Matt Henry were dismissed for 1 and a duck by Shami. By the end of 50 overs, New Zealand scored 273 runs losing all 10 wickets.
With the target of 274 runs, Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill opened the innings for India while Trent Boult opened the bowling attack. The openers had a decent start as Shubman Gill scored 26 runs while Rohit Sharma scored 46 runs and was sent out by Lockie Ferguson.
The Indian star Virat Kohli was impressive as he scored 95 runs on 104 deliveries while Shreyas Iyer scored 33 runs and was sent out by Trent Boult. KL Rahul was sent out with 27 runs by Santner on lbw and Suryakumar Yadav was sent out with 2 runs. With the dismissal of Suryakumar Yadav, India was down to the last five wickets in the 34th over.
Ravindra Jadeja joined the partnership with Virat Kohli helping the side to victory. Ravindra Jadeja scored an unbeaten 39* runs on 44 deliveries. By the end, India scored 274 runs on the 48th over losing 6 wickets.
India will be playing their next World Cup match against England on October 29 at Ekana Sports City, Lucknow.
