Shubman Gill named as ICC Men’s Player of the Month for September 2023

The Indian Young batter Shubman Gill is named as the Player of the Month for September 2023 after his impressive knock in the ODIs ahead of the World Cup 2023.

Shubman Gill was selected for the award among Mohammad Siraj and England player Dawid Malan who were the nominees for the award.

He compiled a total of 480 ODI runs with an average of 80 during the month of September. He was the leading run scorer at the Asia Cup 2023 with 302 runs at an average of 75.5.

He was impressive during the ODI series against Australia where he scored 178 runs in two matches as India led the series 2-1. He smashed a century against Australia in the second ODI match of the Australia tour of India and scored 121 runs during the match against Bangladesh in the Asia Cup in September.

The batter has an incredible record in his ODI career having 1917 runs in 35 matches with an average of 66.1 and a strike rate of 102.84. He is placed in the second spot in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s ODI Batting Rankings.

Recently, the batter has suffered from illness due to which he was sidelined during India’s first and second matches in the ICC World Cup 2023.

Shubman Gill has been feeling sick since the Indian team’s travel to Chennai after the completion of the ICC Warmup games. After being diagnosed with dengue, he was sidelined in the match against Afghanistan.

Ishan Kishan replaced Gill to open for India. He was dismissed with a golden duck in the match against Australia where India won by 6 wickets. He scored 47 runs in the match against Afghanistan.

Although Ishan Kishan backed up Shubman Gill in the top order, he couldn’t fill the solidity of Gill. Shubman Gill has a lot of experience in Ahmedabad Stadium and has an impressive average with two centuries in the stadium as he played three tests and a T20I match.

He was been hospitalized last week and returned to his stay in Chennai during India’s second match in the ICC event.

The medical reports said that his health improved a lot and ready for travel. With doubts about his presence in the highly anticipated match between India and Pakistan, Shubman Gill traveled to Ahmedabad on Wednesday.

But he started his practice session on Thursday and was monitored by doctors. Shubman Gill had an intense practice session with the rest of the Indian cricketers on Friday. If he is fit enough, there is no reason for him to be waiting for his World Cup debut on Saturday.
