The Gujarat Titans captain Shubman Gill was found guilty of maintaining a slow over-rate during the match against CSK in the IPL 2024 campaign.
Shubman Gill Fined for Slow-Over Rate
Shubam Gill was fined INR 12 laksh according to the IPL Code of Conduct for maintaining a slow over-rate during the match against Chennai Super Kings where the latter won the match by 63 runs at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.
“Shubman Gill, the Gujarat Titans captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Chennai Super Kings at the MA Chidambaram Stadium, Chennai on March 26. As it was his team’s first offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to a minimum over rate offenses, Gill was fined ₹12 lakh,” IPL said in an official statement.
Shubman Gill led their side to victory in the opener match of the franchise against Mumbai Indians but failed to register a victory in the Chennai Stadium.
CSK batted first where Rachin Ravindra stormed GT bowler with his impressive fours and sixes. He smashed 46 runs on 20 deliveries and the other opener Ruturaj Gaikwad also scored 46 runs which helped the side to have an impressive start.
Shivam Dube had an impressive innings smashing 51 runs from 23 balls and with the help of other batters score, CSK was able to score 206 runs losing 6 wickets in 20 overs.
With the target of 207 runs, GT opened their innings where Shubman Gill was sent out with 8 runs. Despite his early dismissal, Wriddhiman Saha and Sai Sudharsan provided the required run rate for the side.
But with their dismissal, Gujarat Titans had no chance against CSK’s bowling attacks, as Deepak Chahar, Mustafizur and Tushar Deshpande picked two wickets each.
Finally, Chennai contained Gujarat for 143 runs and secured victory by 63 runs. Gujarat Titans secured sixth position in the IPL 2024 points table.
They will be playing their next match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on March 31 at Narendra Modi Stadium.
