Kolkata Knight Riders captain Shreyas Iyer has been slapped with a whopping INR 12 Lakh fine for maintaining a slow over-rate during their IPL game against Rajasthan Royals.
Apart from the fine, Kolkata Knight Riders also lost the game against Rajasthan Royals by a narrow 2 wickets.
Shreyas Iyer Fined for Breaching Code Of Conduct Against RR
As mentioned by the official statement, KKR has been slapped with a hefty fine of Rs 12 lakhs since it was his team’s first offence of the season, relating to a minimum over-rate offence.
“Shreyas Iyer, the Kolkata Knight Riders captain, has been fined after his team maintained a slow over-rate during their Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 match against Rajasthan Royals at Eden Gardens on April 17,” said BCCI on Wednesday.
“As it was his team’s first offence of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to a minimum over-rate offences, Iyer was fined ₹12 lahks.”
Speaking on the match, Rajasthan Royals won the toss and opted to bowl first where KKR scored 223 runs for 6 wickets loss with Narine’s impressive 109 runs from 56 balls. On the other hand, with Buttler’s unbeaten 107 helped Rajasthan Royals to register their 6th victory of the season.
During the post-match presentation, KKR Captain Shreyas Iyer said “(Was this game a bitter pill to swallow?) I would second that actually, emotions were a roller coaster, certainly didn’t think we will get into this situation. It’s a funny game at the end of the day, he was striking the ball cleanly and timing them so well, had to take it on the chin and move on.
I mean at this point of time you see that you bowl your best deliveries, a little bit hit or miss and you are sent out of the ground, it’s good that it happened now rather than it happening in the later stages of the tournament, good learning for us.
(On Sunil Narine) He is a great asset to the team and he is showing it every game, he is that kind of player who capitalizes on each and every moment. I’m glad that he is a part of our team.
Since he was striking it so well, I thought let’s take pace off the ball and gave it to Chakaravarthy and it’s high pressure when you have five fielders inside the circle, you basically don’t have idea where to bowl.
It’s just about relaxing and rejuvenating, it was very humid as well today. It’s important to learn from our mistakes and bounce back. We have a few days break. At the end of the day, it was a great game, a few overs here and there but I’m really proud of the boys”.
Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) will play their next match of the season against Royal Challengers Bengaluru on April 21 in Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
