    Sharmin Akhter, Jahanara Alam Named in Bangladesh Women’s Squad for Ireland ODIs

    Sharmin Akhter and Jahanara Alam have been named in the upcoming three-match ODI series against Ireland. Meanwhile, Taj Nehar and Sanjid Akter have earned their maiden call-ups for the ODI squad.

    Sharmin missed the Women’s T20 World Cup earlier this year and had last played international cricket during the ODI series at home against India in July 2023.

    Sharmin Akhter has played 35 ODIs and 16 T20Is since her debut in 2011. Meanwhile, Jahanara is among three Bangladesh players who played at least 50 ODIs. She has picked 52 matches at an average of 30.39.

    “Supta is batting really well and performed in the NCL, and as a result, earned her place in the squad for the series against Ireland,” said head of the national women’s selection panel Sazzad Ahmed.

    “Jahanara is also performing and was part of the T20I set-up,” he added. “I think Taj Nehar is a very big prospect in the middle-order, and we want to give her the opportunity to express herself in the 50-over format,” Ahmed said.

    Meanwhile, Disha Bishwas, Sumaiya Akter, Nishita Akhter and Farzana Haque Lisa has been left out of the ODI squad.

    Bangladesh will host Ireland three ODIs and three T20Is of the ICC FTP programme.

    The ODI will kickstart on November 27 whil the second and third ODIs will be played on November 30 and December 02. All the ODI match will be played in Mirpur whilt the T20Is will kickstart on December 05 at Sylhet.
