Shami Ruled Out of Bangladesh ODI Series: Indian senior fast bowler Mohammed Shami has been ruled out of the upcoming Bangladesh ODI series due to a hand injury, a BCCI source said.
Shami Ruled Out of Bangladesh ODI Series
Indian cricket team has been scheduled to tour Bangladesh to play 3 ODIs and 2 Test matches between December 4 – 26. The first match of the series will be played on December 4 at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.
Notably, India will be playing their last Test match of the series while BCCI hosts the IPL 2023 players auction on December 23.
It has been learnt that Shami had suffered the injury during a training session after he returned from Australia, where the Indian team made a semifinal exit from the T20 World Cup.
“Mohammed Shami has suffered a hand injury that he sustained after resuming training post-T20 World Cup in Australia. He has been asked to report at the NCA and has not traveled with the team on December 1,” a senior BCCI source privy to the development told PTI on conditions of anonymity.
Apart from missing the ODI series, Shami is expected to miss the 2-match Tests series which is a part of ICC WTC23. India will face a huge blow if Shami misses the Test series because India needs to win every game to stay in contention for the upcoming World Test Championship final at the Oval in June.
“Shami’s absence from three ODI games is definitely a factor but a bigger worry is his likely absence from Tests where he is supposed to spearhead the attack in Jasprit Bumrah’s absence,” said the source.
The second and third ODI matches will be played on December 7, and 10 at Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka, and Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram.
The two-match Test series will be played on December 14, and December 22 at Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium, Chattogram and Shere Bangla National Stadium, Dhaka.
