Shamar Joseph Shines with Fifer in Home Test Debut at Guyana

Shamar Joseph and Jayden Seales picked 8 wickets on the second test of the South Africa tour of West Indies where Proteas men lost all 10 wickets for 160 runs. But the hosts also responded by picking 7 wickets for 97 runs by the end of day 01.

Veteran All-rounder Jason Holder picked up 33* runs giving the side a fighting chance in the middle order and the West Indies are 63 runs adrift of South Africa’s score from the first innings. Batting first, South Africa was left shocked by sizzling spells of fast bowling from Shamar Joseph and Jayden Seales.

The latter began with dismissing Tony de Zorzi in the fourth over for one run. But Joseph struck twice in an over picking the wickets of Aiden Markram and Temba Bavuma which resulted in losing three wickets for 20 runs.

David Bedingham and Tristan Stubbs balanced the scores with 28 and 26 runs. But Holder broke through the defenses with an outside edge picking the wicket of Stubbs.

After the lunch break, Joseph continued to pick wickets on his account dismissing Bedingham. Meanwhile, Seales sent back Wiaan Mulder on a duck.

Joseph picked his fourth by cleaning Maharaj and Seales added his third wicket by dismissing Kagiso Rabada. Joseph completed his five-wicket haul at home with the wicket of Kyle Verreynne with visitors losing nine wickets for 97 runs.

With a partnership from Dane Piedt and Nandre Burger, South Africa was able to post 160 runs in their innings. Last year in Centurion, South Africa was bowled out for 116 runs against West Indies, which is their lowest total in Tests against them.

But West Indies also suffered with early dismissals as Wian Mulder picked four wickets while Nandre Burger picked 2 wickets by the end of day 01. West Indies scored 97 runs for 7 wickets and left the game balanced at Providence Stadium.
