The young seamer Shamar Joseph has been ruled out of the remaining matches of ILT20 2024 due to the injury he sustained during the Gabba Test.

Shamar Joseph picked up a toe injury during the second test of the West Indies tour of Australia in 2024.

Hence he will be missing the remaining matches of the ILT20 2024. He plays for the Dubai Capital franchise in the league which stands fifth in the ILT20 2024 points table with 2 wins and 3 defeats out of five matches they played.

Although scans showed no fracture after he was clattered on the boot by a yorker from Mitchell Starc, Joseph suffered pain on the fourth day to produce one the best spells in his career where he dismissed 7 wickets for 68 runs to inspire West Indies.

West Indies never won against Australia in a Test since 1997. At the start of the day, he had not expected to feature in the match but he was dosed with painkillers by the physios.

Joseph’s bowling ripped up Australia’s batting line-up through his 150kph bowling speed in the spell.

“I’m not putting down this ball until the last wicket falls,” he told his captain Kraigg Brathwaite.

He was supposed to play in ILT20 after he signed with the Capitals but will be returning home to recover from the injury before traveling to play in PSL. “I will always be here to play Test cricket for the West Indies,” he said.

“I am not afraid to say this live. There will be times when T20 might come around and Test cricket will be there … but I will always be available to play for the West Indies no matter how much money comes towards me.”

Joseph has several offers from various T20 leagues after his stunning start in his career where he claimed the wicket of Steve Smith in his first delivery and claimed two five-wicket hauls.

Joseph was lauded for his heroic efforts throughout the Caribbean and he needs to balance the offers he’s getting from overseas.

“Important for the board, Guyana govt & cooperate bodies to find a way to allocate funds to compensate Shamar Joseph & 1 or 2 other fast bowlers to keep them in the Caribbean & control how much cricket they play,” Bishop posted on X. “Their pace is everything. Don’t allow burnout.”

Although Joseph is not part of the T20 leg for the Australia tour, he could be a candidate for the T20 World Cup 2024 in June.

He will be playing in the test series against England. The Australia and West Indies ODI series will be starting next Monday followed by the T20 series.

Dubai Capitals will be playing their next match against Desert Vipers on February 01 at Dubai International Stadium.
