Pakistan batter Babar Azam has been struggling in his test career, especially with the bat. He has been struggling to deliver significant performances in the longest format of the game.
In the recently concluded test of England’s tour of Pakistan 2024, Babar managed to score 30 and 5 runs in the first and second innings of the opening test. On a pitch widely considered a batting paradise, Babar had a poor run, this poor run has given rise to unflattering nicknames like “Zimbabar” or “Zimbu” suggesting that Babar only excels against weaker teams.
Having said that a viral video has emerged on social media where pacer Shaheen Afridi was said to be using the word “Zimbu” multiple times. Since there was no audio in the video, fans speculated that even Shaheen used the word “Zimbu” to mock his teammate.
However, reports could not confirm whether Shaheen used the word or not. But, there have been reports of a riff between Babar and Shaheen.
Shaheen was removed from captaincy ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 with Babar retaining his captaincy. However, Babar has stepped down from the role once again after the defeat in the T20 World Cup 2024.
Pakistan suffered another defeat in Multan extending their winless run since 2022. with a 267-run lead over Pakistan, England collapsed host’s batting lineup in the second innings. Pakistan had been fighting to draw the match on the final day before Jack Leach picked three wickets to help England win the first test against Pakistan.
Harry Brook smashed a triple century while Joe Root smashed a double century which helped the hosts at Multan.
Following the defeat, Pakistan moved to the bottom of the WTC points table. Shan Masood-led Side will be looking to turn the tables over the visitors on the second match of the home tour which is set to begin on October 15 at Multan Cricket Stadium.
