Pakistan’s Saud Shakeel who scored his first double century in his 6th test appearance receives praises from all around the world. Pakistan cricket team under Babar Azam has been scheduled to tour Sri Lanka to play 2 match Test series between July 16 to July 28.
Only two Test matches have been scheduled to play during the tour. The Test series will form part of the 2023–2025 ICC World Test Championship.
The two test matches of the SL vs PAK 2023 will be played in two different venues. The first match will be played at Galle International Stadium, Galle while the last match will be played at Sinhalese Sports Club, Colombo.
Saud Shakeel Opens on his 1st Test Double Ton
Saud Shakeel made his test debut against England at Rawalpindi Cricket Stadium on December 01, 2022 and played 6 Tests so far. Saud Shakeel who is yet to cross his 1000 test runs mark scored 2 centuries, 1 double century and 5 half centuries with the best of 208.
Born in Karachi, Shakeel has a significant average of 40s in list A and first-class cricket that work well with his handy left-arm orthodox spin.
Pakistan kick-started the tour with a win against the host by 4 wickets. Saud Shakeel who scored his 1st double-century thanks Almighty for giving this opportunity.
“Thanks to Almighty for giving me this opportunity. I tried to build a partnership and looked for runs. We have been working on how to play the sweep and reverse sweep and fortunately, it paid off for us. Since I am from Karachi, I am used to playing spin. However, I have also worked hard towards playing it better”, says Saud Shakeel.
Speaking on the 1st Test, Sri Lanka won the toss and opted to bat first. The host scored 312 runs for 10 wickets loss at the end of the 1st inning with Dhananjaya de Silva’s century.
On the other hand, the visitors scored 461 runs with Saud Shakeel’s unbeaten double-century. While Sri Lanka failed to make a massive lead in their second inning and scored 279 runs for 10 wickets loss.
Abrar Ahmed and Noman Ali bagged 3 wickets each and restricted SL to score further. In Pakistan’s second inning, the batters struggled to score against the aggressive bowling attack of Prabath Jayasuriya who bagged 4 wickets on behalf of Sri Lanka.
But, Imam-ul-Haq scored an unbeaten 50 and led Pakistan to register their victory. Saud Shakeel has been awarded Player of the Match for his impressive batting performance in the 1st inning.
