Sarfaraz Khan apologizes to Sunil Gavaskar
Sarfaraz Khan apologized to Sunil Gavaskar for his dismissal during the fifth test against England. Sunil Gavaskar was on air during the test, when Sarfaraz Khan had a poor shot selection which led to his dismissal.
He was dismissed for 56 runs on 60 deliveries by Shoaib Bashir’s delivery on the first delivery on day 02. Sunil Gavaskar was criticized for not showing composure and jumping the gun at a crucial time.
“The ball was pitched up; it wasn’t short enough for that shot. Goes for it and pays the price. I mean you are playing the first ball after tea. Give yourself a little sighter,” said Gavaskar.
“Don Bradman said to me, ‘Every ball that I face, even if I am on 200, I think I am on 0.’ And here is [Sarfaraz], playing such a shot first ball of the session.”
After India secured an innings and 64 runs win in the Dharamsala test to seal victory in the series 4-1, Sarfaraz Khan sent his apology to the former Indian captain.
“Sunil was telling him that the most important thing is the selection of shots…It is very important. He was talking to him for around 45 minutes. Then in the match, immediately after tea, he got out to a very stupid shot,” said Bhatia.
“Sunil was so angry and asked on commentary what he was doing. The next day, Sarfaraz was with me again and said, ‘Sir, please say sorry to Mr Gavaskar – I made a mistake! I won’t make that mistake again,'” Bhatia added.
At the age of 14, Sarfaraz Khan met Gavaskar; the young batter was already a cricketing sensation for Mumbai.
Sarfaraz Khan became popular at the age of 12 surpassing Sachin Tendulkar’s record for the highest score in the Harris Shield, a prestigious inter-school tournament.
Sarfaraz Khan has been impressive during the England series where he made his debut in the test career.
