Rajasthan Royals captain Sanju Samson has been fined 30 per cent of his match fee for breaching IPL Code of Conduct during the DC vs RR clash yesterday.
The reason for the fine has not been revealed by the board but it could be for arguing with the umpire over his controversial dismissal.
According to IPL’s statement, the RR skipper ‘committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct’ and has accepted the Match Referee’s sanction.
“Sanju Samson, Captain, Rajasthan Royals has been fined 30 per cent of his match fees for breaching the IPL Code of Conduct during Match 56 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024 against Delhi Capitals at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, Delhi on May 07, 2024,” the statement read.
“Samson committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding,” it added.
A Level 1 offence under Article 2.8 of the IPL’s Code of Conduct includes “excessive, obvious disappointment with an Umpire’s decision; an obvious delay in resuming play or leaving the wicket; requesting a referral to the TV Umpire and arguing or entering into a prolonged discussion with the Umpire about his/her decision.”

The incident occurred during the 16th over which was bowled by Mukesh Kumar. In the fourth delivery of the over, Samson hits the ball with the motive of clearing the boundary rope but Shai Hope made a tight catch at the long-on.
The fielder seemed to have a close call with the boundary rope but later in the review, the third umpire was convinced with enough evidence and revealed his decision in the favour of Delhi Capitals.
However, Sanju Samson was not satisfied with the decision and had an argument with the onfield umpire before leaving the field.
Speaking on the match, Rajasthan Royals won the toss and opted to bowl where Jake Fraser-McGurk and Abishek Porel opened the inning for Delhi Capitals.
The duo made a 60 runs stand for the first wicket and made a decent opening for Delhi Capitals. With Abishek Porel’s 36 balls 65, Delhi’s scorecard moves to a better position.
Tristan Stubbs scored a quick-fire 41 off 20 deliveries and led Delhi to score 221 runs for 8 wickets at the end of 20 overs.
On the other hand, Rajasthan Royals made a struggling start as they lost their first wicket for just 4 runs. Yashasvi Jaiswal who was included in India’s T20 World Cup squad scored just 4 runs and was dismissed in the second delivery of the inning.
Following the wicket, Sanju Samson and Buttler made an impressive stand and scored 63 runs for the second wicket. Axar Patel broke the partnership by dismissing Buttler for 19 runs.
Though RR’s middle order failed to make an impact on the scoreboard, their skipper threatened the opponents with his powerful strikes. But Mukesh Kumar dismissed the well-settled Sanju Samson for 86 runs and changed the game flow.
At the end of 20 overs, Rajasthan Royals managed to score 201 runs for 8 wickets loss and lost the game by 20 runs. Kuldeep Yadav who bagged 2 wickets in 4 overs at an economy of 6.20 was named as the player of the match.
