Former India cricketer Sanjay Manjrekar was not happy with KL Rahul’s dismissal controversy during the first innings of the first test of the Border Gavaskar Trophy.
Manjrekar slammed his words when he blasted DRS for the poor supply of technology on KL Rahul‘s dismissal of Mitchell Starc’s delivery.
The incident occurred on the 23rd over of India’s innings, he moved forward to defend when the ball was close to the bat and was caught by Alex Carey. The on-field umpire initially ruled it not out, but Australia went for a review.
The review showed a spike on Snick, indicating contact as the ball passed him.
However, the front-on replay is crucial for determining if the sound come from the bat or bat-pad contact is difficult.
KL Rahul visibly frustrated expressed his disbelief as he walked back to the Pavilion. His dismissal proved to be expensive for India as the side lost 4/47 at his dismissal.
Former Players Wasim Akram, Sanjay Manjrekar and Deep Dasgupta slammed third official, Richard Illingworth and the broadcasting channel for not giving angles to the decision maker.
“It is shocking that the third umpire didn’t look at things from different angles. This is going to create controversy. The ball went past the edge of the bat, but the willow hit the pad at the same time. This should have been considered by the third umpire but he ignored it,” Deep Dasgupta said.
Meanwhile Sanjay Manjrekar said, “We don’t have control over the local broadcaster. They didn’t give enough angles to the umpire. In India, we provide four or five angles to the umpire.”
“The angles provided in KL Rahul’d dismissal were not conclusive. If the snickometer had shown two spikes, KL Rahul was out but it should just one and the benefit of the doubt should have gone to the batter,” Manjrekar said.
Akram was also suprised on the decision giving, “This is a debatable decision and the umpire should have taken time before giving the decision.”
India lost all 10 wickets for 150 runs in the first innings of the match at Optus Stadium.
