The SLC has confirmed the appointment of Sanath Jayasuriya as full-time Sri Lanka Cricket head coach on October 07. The development has been made after the men’s team’s good form in the recent run.
Sanath Jayasuriya who was appointed as interim coach after the end of Women’s T20 World Cup 2024 will remain in the position until March 31, 2026.
In an SLC statement released on their X account, Sri Lanka Cricket said that the executive committee has made the call taking into consideration the team’s recent good performance against India, England and New Zealand and saying that the appointment had come into effect on October 01, 2024.
“Sri Lanka Cricket wishes to announce the appointment of Sanath Jayasuriya as the head coach of the national team.”
“The Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket made this decision taking into consideration the team’s good performances in the recent tours against India, England, and New Zealand, where Jayasuriya was in charge as the ‘interim head coach.”
“The appointment came into effect on October 1, 2024, and will remain until March 31, 2026,” read the statement from Sri Lanka Cricket.

Sri Lanka has been returning back to form since the appointment of Sanath Jayasuriya as the coach. His tenure started with India’s T20Is and ODIs where they secured a historic win against Rohit Sharma and Co in ODI format.
Following that, they secured a first win in a test against England and a dominant victory against New Zealand in a match test series.
His tenure as full captain begins with T20I and ODI series against West Indies which will start from October 13.
