    Samjhana Khadka guides Nepal for historic victory in Women’s Asia Cup

    With Samjhana Khadka’s heroic knock, the Nepal Women’s Cricket team scripts a record by registering their first-ever victory in the Women’s Asia Cup.

    Nepal women’s national cricket team who made their international debut in the ACC Women’s Tournament in Malaysia in July 2007 registered their first-ever Asia Cup victory in 2024.

    Nepal women’s national cricket team achieved this feat during the opening match of the Asia Cup 2024 played against United Arab Emirates Women on July 19 in Dambulla. With the victory, Indu Barma and Co. moved to the top of the Women’s Asia Cup 2024 points table.

    Speaking of the match, Nepal Women won the toss and opted to bowl first. Nepal bowlers had an upper hand since the beginning of the game. UAE lost their first wicket in an unexpected runout and made a struggling start.

    Nepal captain Indu Barma strangled the UAE batters with her tight bowling attack. He ended her inning with a figure of 3 for 19 in four overs. On behalf of UAE, Khushi Sharma scored the highest individual score scoring 36 runs off 39 balls.

    Kavisha Egodage’s 22 is the second-highest individual score for UAE and only four batters managed to reach the double-digit mark while the remaining fell cheaply.

    While batting, Nepal made a decent start and scored 39 runs for a wicket loss in the first powerplay. Though UAE bowlers managed to bag wickets at regular intervals, Nepal opening batter Samjhana Khadka stood strong at one end.

    Samjhana single-handedly dragged the team to register their maiden victory of the edition with her unbeaten 72 off 45 balls. Her match-winning knock comes at a strike rate of 160 which includes 11 boundaries.

    Samjhana Khadka struck the winning runs for Nepal by smashing a boundary off the first ball of the 16th over. Khadka was awarded the Player of the Match award for her match-winning knock.
