    Ruturaj Gaikwad to lead Rest of India squad in Irani Trophy

    CSK star batter Ruturaj Gaikwad has been named as the captain of the 15-member Rest of India squad for the upcoming ZR Irani Cup. Irani Cup 2024 will be played at the Bharat Ratna Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee Ekana Cricket Stadium in Lucknow from October 1 to 5. 2023-24 Ranji Trophy champions Mumbai will be RoI’s opponent.

    Ruturaj Gaikwad who led India and won the GOLD medal in the Asian Games 2023 will lead the Rest of India squad in Irani Trophy 2024. The squad features the majority of the top performers of the recently concluded Duleep Trophy 2024.

    Ishan Kishan who smashed a century in the Duleep Trophy 2024 found his spot in the Rest of India’s squad for Irani Trophy. Dhruv Jurel and Yash Dayal who were part of the India squad for the Bangladesh test have been named in the RoI squad and their participation in the tournament is subject to their availability.

    Both warmed the bench in the first fixture against Bangladesh in Chennai, with Rishabh Pant and Akash Deep preferred over them. If they don’t find a spot in the XI in the second game, they will be released to play for the Rest of India against Mumbai.

    “Dhruv Jurel and Yash Dayal have been selected in the Rest of India squad and their participation is subject to them not being involved in the second Test match against Bangladesh in Kanpur. The 2nd Test will begin from 27th September” said BCCI in domestic release.
