CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad shared an MS Dhoni reference on his Instagram story on Thursday. Recently, a popular social media trend referring to MS Dhoni went viral and fans created random numbers to total seven, which proved to be the iconic jersey number of the legendary cricketer.

MS Dhoni has been nicknamed Thala by fans of the CSK in the Indian Premier League. Social media is flooded with posts where fans creatively produce the number seven out of nowhere.

To honor the legendary cricketer, fans captain these posts with ‘Thala for a Reason’ making the number omnipresent in the digital universe. However, BCCI has retired No.7 to honor the legendary cricketer.

India batter and CSK skipper Ruturaj Gaikwad recently jumped on the trend as he shared an image of his T20I cap which has the number 88 on it hinting at him being the 88th player to represent India in the short format.

While posting the image on his story, Gaikwad added the digits of his cap number producing 16, which further combined to make 7. Instead of using numerical digits, he used the symbol of the heart in Yellow color. He noted that he’s ahead of the trend, as he made his T20I debut in 2021 before this trend event existed.

“I am ahead of the trend,” wrote Gaikwad on his Instagram story. Recently, the 27-year-old Gaikwad also scored an unbeaten 77 runs in the second T20I on India’s tour of Zimbabwe putting a partnership stand of 137 runs with Abhishek Sharma to help India post a massive score of 234/2 in 20 overs.
