The Cricket West Indies (CWI) has announced the ODI and T20I squad for the Sri Lanka tour where big names like Andre Russell and Nicholas Pooran will start in the second week of October.
With the likes of Shimron Hetmyer and Akeal Hosein opting out of the series, the selectors have named a few uncapped players who impressed in the recent edition of the Caribbean Premier League 2024 (CPL).
Terrance Hinds has picked up eight wickets in as many games and Shamar Springer, who picked up 12 in nine games in the ongoing CPL, has been included in the T20I series following their splendid performance.

Meanwhile, head coach Daren Sammy confirmed that the senior cricketers wanted to opt out of the series following a hectic CPL. Some of them are also dealing with injuries and are currently in rehabilitation.
“The tour of Sri Lanka gives us a chance to test our depth and assess players in different situations, especially with several senior players missing out for various reasons, including a need for rest and rehabilitation from injury. We are confident in the squad’s ability to compete strongly against Sri Lanka,” said Sammy.
On the other hand, Jewel Andrew has earned his maiden call in the West Indies ODI squad. the 17-year-old has played three List-A games and scored 165 runs at an average of 55.
Sammy said that the goal is to give opportunities to talented young cricketers and added that Jewel has earned his place in the team.
“As we continue to build our ODI team, this tour offers a valuable opportunity to evaluate strategies and give opportunities to emerging talent. We are excited to see young players like Jewel Andrew, who has earned his place as an exciting prospect for the future,” Sammy said.
