Romario Shepherd Leaves West Indies Camp
Romaria Shepherd and his wife Tia Terencia Joseph have been expecting the birth of their second child. He played in the first three games of the tournament before missing the Afghanistan clash.
During the toss, Skipper Rovman Powell confirmed the news of Shepherd missing out on the game to be present for the birth of his second child. The West Indies social media handle confirmed that he will join the squad on June 19 (IST).
While speaking at the toss, Rovman said, “We have two changes – Romario Shepherd is out and Obed McCoy is in and Roston Chase is out and Shai Hope comes in. Romario is with his family for the birth of his second child.”
Romario had a decent outing in the t20 World Cup campaign as he picked two wickets in three outings with an economy of 8.50. Yet West Indies won all three matches before securing a 104-run victory against Afghanistan.
Obed McCoy enjoyed a brilliant performance during the match against Afghanistan. His sensational spell of 3/14 helped the side to bowl out Afghanistan for 114 runs. Nicholas Pooran also showcased an impressive performance smashing 98 runs in the match. He also joined the elite list of most t20I runs after the clash.
Despite losing the match against co-hosts, Afghanistan are the second team from Group C to qualify for Super 8s. The two-time champions West Indies will take on defending champions England in their first Super 8s clash at St. Lucia on June 20 at Beausejour Stadium.
