Ahead of the IPL 2024 auction, Lucknow Super Giants trades Romario Shepherd to Mumbai Indians who played just one game for them last season.

The 28-year-old made his IPL debut in 2022 with Sunrisers Hyderabad after being bought for Rs. 7.75 crore at the IPL 2022 auction. Shepherd featured in three games and scored 58 runs at a strike rate of 141.46 and also picked three wickets with the ball.

But Lucknow Super Giants roped him in for his base price of INR 50 lakh at the IPL 2023 Auction where Shepherd played just one game for LSG in IPL 2023 and returned with a golden duck in his team’s five-wicket win over Sunrisers Hyderabad.

Under the new captain, Mumbai Indians made a worst start by losing the first three games they played so far. Shepherd was included in Mumbai’s game against SRH where the bowler scored an unbeaten 15 off 6 deliveries he faced.

In his second game of the season, Romario Shepherd scored a match-turning 32 runs off the final 6 balls and proved his worth.

Speaking on the match, Delhi Capitals won the toss and opted to bowl first where Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan opened the inning for Mumbai. The duo made an aggressive start by scoring 80 runs for the first wicket.

Axar Patel broke the well-settled partnership by dismissing Rohit Sharma for 49 runs in the final delivery of the 7th over. In the very next over, Nortje dismissed Suryakumar Yadav for duck and loads pressure over the Mumbai batters.

Ishan Kishan who made some aggressive shots failed to withstand Axar’s spin attack and was dismissed for 42 runs while Mumbai scored 111 runs in 10.2 overs.

Following Kishan’s dismissal, Tilak Varma who was expected to make a stand with Hardik Pandya returned to the pavilion after scoring just 6 runs. At the end of 13 overs, Mumbai Indians scored 123 runs for 4 wickets loss.

Hardik Pandya who made a steady inning lost his wicket to Nortje after scoring 39 runs off 33 deliveries while Mumbai scored 181 runs off 18 overs. With 14 balls left, Romario Shepherd scored 39 runs off 10 balls and dragged Mumbai to score 234 runs for 5 wickets loss at the end of 20 overs.

Romario Shepherd scored a whopping 32 runs off the final over bowled by Anrich Nortje and helped Mumbai Indians to register their 3rd highest total in IPL history.
