With doubts raised on the player Shubman Gill’s availability for the IND-PAK World Cup Clash, the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma gives an update on the player.
Gill’s availability for IND-PAK World Cup clash
The Young opener Shubman Gill has been sidelined for India’s two opening matches in the World Cup against Australia and Afghanistan due to his illness.
The player suffered from a high fever during the Indian team’s travel to Chennai to play their World Cup openers against Australia. After being diagnosed with dengue, he was sidelined for the match against Afghanistan.
After being hospitalized and observed in a private hospital, he went back to his hotel room in Chennai. With medical reports favoring his travel, he flew to Ahmedabad on Wednesday.
He was seen in the practice session on Thursday in the observation of the doctor. The BCCI has been monitoring closely on the players’ health. He was practicing with full intensity with the side on Friday and is expected to be in action for the IND-PAK clash.
On this occasion, the Indian skipper Rohit Sharma spoke in a pre-match conference saying that Shubman Gill is “99 percent” available for the selection.
This positive update on Shubman Gill will give a boost to the side heading into the clash on Saturday. He has been impressive in his ODI form throughout this year. He has scored 1230 runs in this year which is the highest in this format in 2023 with an average of 72.35 with five centuries and many fifties.
Shubman Gill is fond of batting in the Ahmedabad Stadium as he scored 280 runs in five innings which included two centuries, one in T20 and one in Test. He was the part of the IPL franchise Gujarat Titans where he amassed a total score of 572 runs, the most runs by any player in the venue.
He has played a total of nine innings in the 2023 season in the venue which includes two hundreds and three fifties. The return of the player to the playing 11 would push the team management to sideline Ishan Kishan who opened the side during the absence of Gill in the World Cup matches.
He was sent out with a golden duck during the match against Australia and scored 47 runs in the match against Afghanistan. Even though he replaced Gill during his illness period, he could not reach the solidity of Gill in the position.
The match between India and Pakistan will kickstart at 02:00 PM IST on October 14 at Narendra Modi Stadium, Ahmedabad.
