Rishabh Pant Set to be Delhi Capitals’ Top Retention Choice Ahead of IPL 2025 Auction

The Indian wk-Batter Rishabh Pant is set to continue his journey with Delhi Capitals ahead of IPL 2025. This confirmation comes amid rumours about his future with the team and alleged his disagreement over retention fee.

A decision was made after a meeting with the player and DC co-owner Parth Jindal. With BCCI yet to reveal the retention rules, Mega auction Date, and Venue for the event, the franchise’s ownership group has confirmed that Pant will be their top choice for retention.

Pant’s current IPL salary is INR 16 crore, but this salary is anticipated to rise based on the salary purse allowed for the franchise and the retention fee guidelines set by the BCCI.

After missing the IPL 2023 due to his recovery from a car accident, he returned to lead the franchise in IPL 2024. The Southpaw scored 446 runs in 13 games at an impressive strike rate of 155 in this year’s IPL. However, the team failed to qualify for the playoffs.

The Delhi Capitals management has also reportedly made decisions on retaining other players. Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav are likely to remain with the franchise, with Jake Fraser-McGurk and Tristan Stubbs on the list of overseas retention.

The two co-owners of Delhi Capitals, the GMR and JSW groups, manage the franchise alternately for a rolling two-year period each, with the GMR group currently on the wheel.

While the co-owner has the autonomy to manage the team independently, including decisions on support and management staff, it is understood that retention and auction decisions are made jointly as part of mutual agreement.

Ahead of the IPL 2025 mega auction, a guideline for retaining uncapped players is being explored by the BCCI. In that case, the DC management is expected to retain Young wk-batter Abhishek Porel.

It was reported that the retention guidelines will be released by the end of this month, giving teams around two months to make strategies.

As per the website, the declaration of the retention rules has been delayed, and it is now clear that the announcement may come at any time. In addition, the two-day auction is scheduled for the end of November and will be held overseas, with London and several cities in the Middle East being considered as potential venues.
