India has opted for a spin attack with four spinners Ashwin, Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel, and Kuldeep Yadav. The Duleep Trophy was touted as the selection for the Indian test team. Pant who represented India B played a crucial role with 61 runs off 47 balls to help the side to set a target of 275 runs. He took a series of catches behind the stumps.
KS Bharat grabbed the eyes of the selector with a crucial contribution with the bat including a solid 90-run knock in the second test against England at Ranchi.
But, Pant will be considered the first-choice wicketkeeper. Pant has been an integral part of India’s white-ball format and was part of India’s tour of Sri Lanka in 2024.
Meanwhile, Shreyas Iyer missed a spot in the squad. After being ruled out of the squad during England tests due to injury, he was dropped from BCCI central contracts as he remained unavailable for the Ranji Trophy.
Iyer played a crucial role in the Mumbai team leading them to a title win. He also captained KKR to the third IPL title, which was a crucial encounter for his comeback to the Indian team in the Sri Lanka tour.
After missing the England test series due to personal reasons, Virat Kohli will be featuring in the test format for the first time this year. The Sri Lanka tour exposed a spinn threat for Indian batters which keeps an eye on how they respond to Bangladesh’s spin attack. Sarfaraz Khan retained his spot while KL Rahul was added to the squad.
Bangladesh recently secured a 2-0 clean sweep victory over Pakistan and will be confident while taking India. The first test match of the test series will be played between September 19 and 23 at M.A. Chidambaram Stadium.
