Rishabh Pant Injury Update: No More Surgery; Set To Return Earlier Than Expected

Rishabh Pant Injury Update: Ahead of the new year, everyone in the cricket community was left worried right after the news of Pant’s accident went viral on social media.

Rishabh Pant Injury Update

In the early morning of December 30, 2022 – a day before the start of the new year, Indian wicket-keeper batter Rishabh Pant met with a near-fatal car accident. Pant suffered multiple injuries when his BMW car collided with a road divider on the Delhi-Dehradun highway. Pant suffered injuries on his head, back and feet but is in stable condition.

The incident took place between 5:30-6:00 AM while Pant travels from Delhi to his residence in Roorkee. The incident exactly took place near Mohammadpur Jat under the Kotwali Mangalore area of Roorkee.

Pant somehow managed to come out of the car in time, though he suffered a ligament tear in his right knee and cuts above his forehead.

The Rishabh Pant accident video went viral on social media and recovery wishes starts to pour in from all around the world. Regarding this BCCI released an official statement.

Following his injury, Pant has been ruled out of the IPL 2023 season where David Warner was named as the captain of the Delhi Capitals team. While Abhishek Porel was named as Rishabh Pant’s replacement for the season.

As per a report, Pant had surgery on his medial collateral ligament (MCL), and he also had some repairs on the anterior cruciate ligament (ACL). However, it was the posterior cruciate ligament (PCL) that posed problems for the player. He was informed that a second surgery on the PCL could be required, but it has reportedly been ruled out now.

The 25-year-old was expected to undergo another minor surgery, but his recovery has been going far better than expected, and his comeback to the field could come very soon as well, A BCCI official confirms.

“Let’s make it clear that Pant never had multiple surgeries as was speculated. There was much anxiety over another surgery. He was monitored every fortnight. Fortunately, his progress has been better than expected. This is a big boost for him. It could mean his comeback can happen a lot earlier than what was first expected,” a BCCI source told TOI.

“He is in good spirits. He can now walk considerably longer without a crutch. The focus of his rehab is now largely on strengthening. He should be in the back-to-play phase training soon,” they added.

The left-hander is likely to be ruled out of all action in 2023, including the Asia Cup and the World Cup. However, there are positive signs with his recovery, with the Delhi Capitals skipper making a quicker recovery to full fitness.
