Rishabh Pant Fined INR 12 Lakhs for Maintaining Slow Over Rate against CSK

The Delhi Capitals captain Rishabh Pant has been fined INR 12 lakhs for maintaining a slow-over rate during the side’s victory against Chennai at Visakhapatnam.

Delhi Capitals has their first victory against Chennai in the IPL 2024 campaign on March 31 at Dr Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium. But they have been fined with INR 12 lakhs for breaching the IPL code of conduct for maintaining a slow over rate.

The defending champions faced their first defeat this season under new captain Ruturaj Gaikwad, after tasting victories in their first two matches of the campaign.

It was his team’s first offense of the season under the IPL’s Code of Conduct relating to minimum over-rate offenses. This was the second time in the campaign a team was fined for maintaining a slow over rate.

Shubman Gill was charged with a fine of INR 12 lakhs for the same offense during the match against CSK at Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai last Tuesday.

Coming to the match, Delhi Capitals batted first to post a score of 191 runs. Rishabh Pant who returned to cricket action after his car accident on December 2022 smashed fifty runs during the CSK clash.

David Warner was another scorer who smashed fifty while Prithvi Shaw scored 43 runs on 27 deliveries. By the end of their innings, Delhi Capitals lost five wickets for scoring 191 runs.

Matheesha Pathirana bagged three wickets for Chennai Super Kings. With the target of 192 runs, Chennai Super Kings opened their innings where the openers Ruturaj Gaikwad and Rachin Ravindra were dismissed for 1 and 2 runs respectively.

Ajinkya Rahane smashed 46 runs to help the side to revive from early dismissals. Daryl Mitchell joined Rahane to score 34 runs for CSK. Dube scored 18 runs while Ravindra Jadeja smashed unbeaten 21 runs on 17 deliveries

MS Dhoni who didn’t get a chance to bat in the first two matches, has proved his form by picking unbeaten 37 runs on 16 deliveries including 4 fours and 3 sixes. But Chennai Super Kings failed to chase the target.

Chennai Super Kings lost six wickets for scoring 171 runs in 20 overs. Chennai Super Kings lost the top position in the points table and secured second place while Delhi Capitals secured 7th position in the IPL 2024 points table.

Delhi Capitals will be playing their next match against Delhi Capitals on April 03 at ACA-VDCA Cricket Stadium.
