“Talked a Lot With Mahi Bhai” Rinku Singh on His Performance in 2nd T20I Against Bangladesh

The batter Rinku Singh has recalled his conversations with former captain MS Dhoni which helped him remain calm in tough situations after the second T20I of Bangladesh tour of India 2024.

India struggled at Arun Jaitley Stadium when they batted first as they lost three wickets in the powerplay when Rinku Singh walked in.

The 26-year-old along with Nitish Reddy played a game-changing innings with scoring 108 runs off 48 deliveries for the fourth wicket and scored an individual runs of 53 off 29 deliveries helping the side to post a mammoth total of 221 in their 20 overs.

While speaking at the post-match presentation, Rinku Singh said, “I keep telling myself to remain calm in tough situations. It comes naturally to me as I have been playing at this position for a long time.”

“I practise accordingly as well. I have talked a lot regarding this with Mahi bhai (MS Dhoni) which has helped. When you lose 3-4 wickets, you need to have self belief.”

“We ((partnership with Nitish Kumar) just wanted to build a partnership as the wicket was slightly slow, rotate the strike and punish the bad balls. The momentum swung after that free-hit (off Mahmudullah) and Nitish gained a lot of confidence,” he added.

When Nitish Reddy finished with 74 runs off 34 deliveries, Rinku Singh smashed his third half-century in T20Is.

He also credited India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir for the confidence he instilled within him. “When I Come out to bat, I look to score singles and look for bad balls to hit. The team is important, not me. The Team should win the match,” said Rinku Singh.

During Bangladesh’s innings, the visitors made a solid start before Indian bowlers dismantled their batting lineup as they lost 4 wickets for 46 runs in the seventh over.

They managed to amass only 135 runs and suffered an 86-run defeat. India took a 2-0 series lead and will be aiming to whitewash the visitors with a win in the third T20I on October 12 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium.
