“There Will be a Draw Somewhere” Ricky Ponting Predictions on Border Gavaskar Trophy

Former Australian batter Ricky Ponting has shared his views on the upcoming Border-Gavaskar Trophy between India and Australia and stated that it would be a “competitive series.”

The Border Gavaskar Trophy will begin with a first test at Perth Stadium played between November 22 and November 26. India has been victorious in the last two editions of the series held in 2018-19 and 2020-21.

Speaking in the ICC review, Ponting said that the Aussies have a lot to prove against India since it will be their home series.

“It’s going to be a competitive series and as I said I think Australia’s got a bit of a point to prove against India in Australia on the back of what’s happened the last the last two series here,” said on the ICC review with Sanjana Ganeshan.

“We are back to five Tests as well, which is the other really important thing about this series. It’s only been four Tests the last couple of times. Five tests, I think everyone’s excited by that and I don’t know if there’d be too many drawn games.”

Ricky Ponting further backed Australia to win the series and also predicted that Pat Cummins-led Australia will take on India by the margin of 3-1.

“I’m going to tip Australia to win and I’m never going to tip against Australia. There will be a draw somewhere and there will be some bad weather somewhere, so I’m going to say 3-1 to Australia,” said Ricky Ponting.

The first match will be played at Optus Stadium in Perth on November 22 and the second will be a day and night fixture that will be played in Adelaide starting on December 06.

The Third test will be held at the Gabba and the fourth test will be playing the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground on December 26, 2024. The landmark series, set to form an integral part of the ongoing ICC WTC cycle, will conclude with the fifth test in Sydney in January 2025.
