Rehan Ahmed flies back home
England will be facing a significant setback in the ongoing fourth test and upcoming fifth test as spinner Rehan Ahmed will be flying back home for personal reasons.
The England Cricket Board has revealed statement about the withdrawal of the player saying, “Rehan Ahmed will return home for personal reasons with immediate effect from England Men’s Test tour of India. He will not be returning to India.”
“England will not be replacing Ahmed for the rest of the tour,” the statement added. Shoaib Bashir has replaced Rehan Ahmed in England’s Playing 11 for the fourth test. His absence in the playing 11 was not connected to his departure from home.
He will be starting from India on Friday and the England team has not named a replacement. With his departure, England will be having only 14 members for the final two tests.
Earlier this month, Rehan Ahmed faced some difficulties in getting a Visa clearance for traveling to India from Dubai before the third test. It was resolved and Rehan came to India to play in the third test picking up three wickets in England’s 434-run defeat in the match.
On the other hand, Shoaib Bashir returns to the squad after being benched for the third test following his debut in the Vizag test. Bashir has picked 11 wickets so far in the series after Tom Hartley.
Meanwhile, India’s Jasprit Bumrah has been rested for the fourth test. KL Rahul was ruled out of the match as he failed to recover from his injury.
Coming to the match, England won the toss and chose to bat at Ranchi where they lost five wickets after scoring 112 runs before the lunch break of day 01.
Zak Crawley scored 42 runs on day 01 before being sent out by Akash Deep. The test debutant Akash Deep had bagged three wickets on day 01 while Ravindra Jadeja and Ravichandran Ashwin had one wicket each at JSCA International Stadium Complex.
