The Veteran all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja showcased his bowling skills as he picked fifer during the first innings of the Ranji Trophy 2024-25 game between Saurashtra and Delhi at the Niranjan Shah Stadium.
Jadeja’s performance with the ball has provided an upper hand for the side with the likes of Rohit Sharma, Yashasvi Jaiswal, Shubman Gill and Rishabh Pant all dismissed in their respective games for single-digit scores.
With Jayadev Unadkat getting the opening wicket to dismiss Arpit Rana in the first over, the 36 year old managed to strike in the 10th over, catching the batter between the pads.
The pair of Yash Dhull and Ayush Badoni looked to mount together to mount together a resistance to fight back against Saurashtra’s brilliant start, but Jadeja proved his class once again by breaking the partnership.
Meanwhile, Rishabh Pant came to the field, but his time were shortened as Jadeja dismissed wk-batter for 1 run.
He also dismissed Ayush Badoni get away with a big innings as he was dismissed on 60 to give all-rounder his fourth wicket. He picked the wicket of Navdeep Saini to complete his five wicket haul.
Delhi’s innings came with the dismissal of Saini. The 36 year old picked up his 16th five wicket haul of his first class career and registered his figures of 5/66 as he helped to bundle out Delhi for just 188.
For a long time, Ravindra Jadeja has been integral part of the national side and has been one of the major reason’s of India’s success in home and away games, particularly in the longest format.
But Jadeja has been criticised for India’s recent failures in red ball cricket against New Zealand and Border Gavaskar Trophy.
Jadeja’s fifer could be a positive to make his case for the side and consistent performance will make it only a matter of time to solid his place in the squad. But for now, he will focus on batting of things in the second innings.
