Ravichandran Ashwin Announces his International Retirement

Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin announces his international retirement following the third test of the Border Gavaskar trophy. Ashwin made his announcement in the post-match conference after the game concluded in a draw.

Ashwin played in the second test picking a wicket and smashing 22 and 7 runs at Adelaide, but was not part of the Perth and Brisbane tests. He was replaced by Jadeja for the third test.

Ashwin retires from the game as India’s second highest wicket-taker in tests with 537 scalps in 106 games only behind Anil Kumble who has 619 wickets.

Meanwhile Ravichandran Ashwin will continue to play T20 tournaments and he will represent Chennai Super Kings in IPL 2025 after joining the side for INR 9.75 crore.

“I won’t take too much of your time. Today will be the last day for me as an India cricketer,” said Ashwin.

“He was very, very sure of his decision. We should stand by what he wants,” said Rohit Sharma after Ashwin left the stage.

Recently he was seen sharing an emotional moment with star batter Virat Kohli in the dressing room hours before the announcement. While it was pictured as rumours of Ashwin’s retirement, the 38 year old’s announcement has confirmed it all.

Ashwin has made 116 ODI appearance with 156 wickets while has 72 wickets in 65 T20Is.

Ashwin’s departure coincides with the peak performance of India’s spin bowling in Test cricket. He has been achieved the distinction of being the first bowler to reach 100 WTC wickets and currently leads the wicket-taking charts with 195 dismissals in 41 matches.

The third match of the BGT ended in draw after the rain spoiled the game on day 05 and both sides have one victory each. The fourth match of the Australia-India tests will be played beginning on December 26 at Melbourne Cricket Ground.
