Ramandeep Singh fined for breaching IPL Code of Conduct

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) batter Ramandeep Singh has been fined 20 per cent of his match fee for breaching IPL Code of Conduct during the match against Mumbai Indians on Saturday.

Ramandeep committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 of the IPL Code of Conduct. He admitted to the offence and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding.

Ramandeep committed a Level 1 offence under Article 2.20 which “is intended to cover all types of conduct that is contrary to the spirit of the game and which is not specifically and adequately covered by the specific offences set out elsewhere in this Code of Conduct.”

Furthermore, the article states that “When assessing the seriousness of the offence, the context of the particular situation, and whether it was deliberate, reckless, negligent, avoidable and/or accidental, shall be considered.

Further, the person lodging the Report shall determine where on the range of severity the conduct lays (with the range of severity starting at conduct of a minor nature (and hence a Level 1 Offence) up to conduct of an extremely serious nature (and hence a Level 4 Offence).”

Speaking on the rain-affected game, Kolkata Knight Riders won the game by 18 runs against Mumbai Indians and qualified for the IPL 2024 playoffs round. Ramandeep Singh played a handy knock of 17 runs from 8 deliveries and led the team to score 157 runs for a 7-wicket loss in the allotted 16 overs.

On the other hand, injured Mumbai Indians again failed to chase the target and fell 18 runs short and lost the game. Varun Chakaravarthy was crowned the Player of the Match award for his impressive bowling spell. Chakaravarthy bowled 4 overs and bagged 2 wickets at an economy of 4.20.
