Quinton de Kock’s Knock at St Lucia Guides South Africa to Victory against England

The Wk-Batter Quinton de Kock’s impressive knock of 64 runs during the match against England has made a solid base for the side’s victory at St Lucia. South Africa is scheduled to play the 45th match of the T20 World Cup 2024 against England on June 21 at Daren Sammy National International Stadium.

de Kock was named the Player of the Match. While speaking in the post-match conference, ” It (the pitch) definitely doesn’t play the same as night games. It’s completely a different surface compared to the night games. There was a little bit of extra bounce early on. I try to carry on confidence game by game. We bowled really well in the powerplay, and we controlled it very nicely. To be able to defend 160 on a decent wicket is a good effort from us.”

Coming to the match, England won the toss and opted to bowl first. Reeza Hendrica and Quinton de Kock opened the innings while Reece Topley opened the bowling attack. From the start of the match de Kock started to hit big while Hendricks batted steady and slow. With their partnership, they scored 63 runs in the powerplay with no loss of wickets. They forged an impressive partnership stand scoring 86 runs for the first wicket.

In the fifth ball of the 10th over from Moeen Ali, Reeza Hendricks was dismissed after scoring 19 runs in 25 deliveries which included a boundary. He was sent out on a wide outside off delivery where he tried hitting the ball but the ball went in the air off the toe-end where Harry Brook goes for the catch.

With the departure of Hendricks, Klaasen came to bat. de Kock scored 65 runs on 38 deliveries including 04 fours and 04 sixes before being dismissed on a delivery from Jofra Archer. After his dismissal, David Miller came to bat and by the end of 10 overs, South Africa scored 92 runs losing two wickets.

With Klaasen sent out for 8 runs in a run out by Jos Buttler, Adil Rashid picked the wicket of Aiden Markram for 1 run in the 15th over. After Struggling to score runs, David Miller came for the aid and continued to bat helping the side to cross the 150-run mark.

David Miller scored 43 runs by the end of the 19th over, and Jofra Archer picked the wickets of Miller and Marco Jansen. Marco Jansen was sent out on the golden duck. With Stubbs’s 12 runs, South Africa scored 163 runs losing 6 wickets by the end of 20 overs.

With a target of 164, England started their innings where Philip Salt and Jos Buttler opened the innings while Marco Jansen opened the bowling attack. Rabada picked the wicket of Salt for 11 runs. By the end of the powerplay, England scored 41 runs for one wicket.

Maharaj picked the wickets of Jonny Bairstow and Jos Buttler for 16 and 17 runs, and England lost three wickets for 54 runs. Harry Brook and Liam Livingstone revived the side from early dismissals with 53 and 33 runs respectively. But their knocks couldn’t secure victory for the side. With Sam Curran’s 10 runs, England scored 156 runs losing 6 wickets by the end of 20 overs.
