The 9th edition of the PSL league has reached an interesting phase as four teams have qualified for the playoff regardless of the remaining league matches of the PSL 2024 schedule.
PSL 2024 Playoff Qualified Teams
The PSL 2024 league has completed most of the league stage matches and the remaining match results will not have a major change in the points table.
The teams in the top four positions will advance to the qualifiers round which is set to begin on March 14. Multan Sultans, Islamabad United, Peshawar Zalmi, and Quetta Gladiators are the Playoff Qualified Teams respective to their position in the points table.
Multan Sultans
Multan Sultan has been the most successful franchise in PSL 2024 after clinching six victories in 9 matches they played and have an impressive NRR of +0.839. Sultans had a great start in the tournament with three consecutive victories against Karachi Kings, Islamabad United, and Lahore Qalandars.
They suffered their first defeat this season against Peshawar Zalmi where they lost with only five runs. Sultan made a comeback by winning three back-to-back matches before facing defeat during the match against Peshawar Zalmi and Islamabad United.
Multan Sultans has reached finals thrice where they clinched one title during the season 2021 and ended up as runners in the other two seasons.
Islamabad United
Islamabad United has completed their all ten group stage matches and currently emerged as the second in the points table with 11 points. Other qualifiers Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators also have 11 points but considering NRR they have been placed in third and fourth place respectively.
Despite having an impressive start with a victory against Lahore Qalandars, they suffered with back-to-back defeats in the tournament.
Despite their match against Karachi Kings being abandoned due to rain, they were able to clinch the second spot in the table. Islamabad has been into the finals two times where they emerged as the title winners in the 2016 and 2018 seasons.
Peshawar Zalmi
Peshawar Zalmi has been one of the most successful teams in the PSL league securing a spot in the finals five times. They even won the title during the second season of the league in 2017.
Peshawar Zalmi has played 9 matches in the ongoing season out of which they bagged five victories. Despite having a poor start, Zalmi made a comeback with 5 victories and a tie in the match against Lahore due to rain.
They are set to play their last group-stage match against Karachi Kings. Despite the results, they will be playing in the qualifiers as they have 11 points.
Quetta Gladiators
Quetta Gladiators being the champions of the inaugural season, has played 9 matches til now in the ongoing season and was able to pull victory in five matches.
They lost three matches against Multan Sultans, Karachi Kings, and Peshawar Zalmi this season. The match against Islamabad United was abandoned due to rain. They stand fourth in the points table with 11 points.
PSL 2024 Playoffs
The fixures for the Playoff are yet to be announced and the qualifier match will be played between the top two teams of the table while Eliminator 1 will be played between the 3rd and 4th positioned teams.
The Eliminator 2 match will be played between the loser of the Qualifier and the winner of Eliminator 1. The final match will be played between both the winners of Qualifier and Eliminator 2.
Karachi Kings and Peshawar Zalmi will be playing in the next match of the PSL 2024 schedule on March 11 at National Stadium Karachi.
