Probable India batting line up for Asia Cup 2023
Indian Cricket team is set to leave for Sri Lanka for the Continental event on August 30, which has been assembled at the KSCA Three Ovals campus. India will be having their first match against their arch-rivals Pakistan on September 2 at Pallekele International Stadium.
The Indian squad is currently undergoing fitness and medical tests. Recently, team India is facing one of the biggest issues in the squad is filling the batting line-up in the middle order.
With the inclusion of KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, the middle order will be covered. But many former cricketers and experts are suggesting Virat to bat on No.4 who was impressive on the spot.
Notably, out of his 46 ODI centuries, seven of them came from batting from position 4. He had scored 1767 runs with an average of 55.21 and a strike rate of 90.66.
Former players like Ravi Shastri and Ab de Villiers also made suggestions for Virat to bat in the middle order. With the training sessions starting on Friday, the plans for the match against Pakistan in the batting order have been hinted.
With KL Rahul sidelined for the first two matches in the continental event due to niggle in his injury, Ishan is expected to replace Rahul in the squad.
KL Rahul has been out of action since May due to his hamstring surgery during IPL 2023, while Shreyas Iyer has been sidelined since March. Both have proved their fitness at NCA, Bengaluru, but without practice in real ODIs will doubt their performance.
According to sources, India had centre-wicket practice with batters being sent in pairs. After Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, Virat Kohli, and Shreyas Iyer were sent to bat. This hints at the batting order of India’s top-order batting line-up for the upcoming Asia Cup.
This has resolved the batting line-up where Virat Kohli will be batting at No.3 and Iyer at No.4. Since the 2019 World Cup, Virat Kohli has batted only once at No.4 in the match against Australia in 2020. On the other hand, Kohli and Iyer have batted in the same line-up 29 times since 2018.
If the top order will be followed as per practice sessions, Rahul and Suryakumar will be walking in as the next pair.
Hence the probable batting pair for India will be Rohit and Shubman open, while Virat and Iyer will be the next pair to bat. Following them there is a doubt whether Ishan or Suryakumar will be batting at no.5.
