Prithvi Shaw County cricket debut
The Indian batter had arrived in the UK well in time after apparent hassles over travel documents. His county debut will kick-start on Friday.
“I am delighted to say Prithvi arrived in the UK today (Sunday) and will feature in our one-day cup starting Friday, August 4. The official announcement (will come) tomorrow (Monday),” said Ray Payne, the Chief Executive of Northamptonshire County Cricket Club
Shaw had been issued with NOC from the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) and was permitted to skip the Deodhar Trophy inter-Zonal one-day championship in Puducherry. His absence from the NCCC fixtures will lead to confusion over his assignment.
At a particular stage, his contribution was in doubt as NCCC maintained with no announcement to make over Shaw joining the club. However, with the NCCC CEO confirming his arrival, he is all set for his county assignment.
The One-Day Cup, a 50-over competition in the England and Wales Cricket Board domestic program, starts on Tuesday, but the Northamptonshire Steelbacks are scheduled to play their first match against Gloucestershire at Cheltenham on Friday.
Shaw will join David Willey and Andrew Tye on the Northamptonshire side with John Sadler being the county’s head coach.
Shaw had a debut in his international career, scoring a century against West Indies. But he has lost his way since and managed to play only four more Tests besides seven white ball games (six ODIs and one T20I) for India.
Shaw will become the fourth Indian to be signed up by a county this season after Cheteshwar Pujara, Ajinkya Rahane, Arshdeep Singh, and Navdeep Saini. Rahane had signed up with Leicestershire, but he pulled out of his contract to take a break.
